Just like a crowded shop making more sales and there by more profit, hidden treasure lies in the visitor’s traffic of the affiliate’s website. When more focused visitors hit the site, the probability of diverting them to the appropriate advertiser’s website increases. This increase in diverted traffic pays good dividend in the form of commissions to the affiliate.
The affiliate’s website may get the visitors directly from top search engines available in the internet like Google, Yahoo or MSN. If the traffic is generated like this, it is natural that the affiliate site has good contents with rich text and proper key words that internet users use for searching the internet. But in reality it is not so easy to generate this kind of natural or organic traffic in the initial stages itself. It takes some years of experience for the affiliate to get traffic from search engine. There is always an intense competition taking place to reach the top of the search engine rankings. The ranking may not be constant and anytime the search engine may drop the site from indexing or punish them with lower rankings if they are not comfortable with the website. Websites with duplicate contents (copy of block of contents from another website) or sites with too many links to its own sub-domains may get banned by the search engines automatically. Search Engine Optimization is a separate chapter and every one can not be a specialist in that. Knowledge of understanding basic HTML alone is not sufficient. But to some extent every affiliate can put some effort to optimize his website search engine friendly by putting some extra effort, like taking care of proper KEYWORD META TAGs and Robots configuration.
